2024 Parish Retreat – Registration is Open!

We hope to see you at Claggett June 29-30!

You may have heard that time is running out to sign up for the parish retreat, but perhaps you’re thinking: What is the parish retreat?

St. Mark’s has a long tradition of gathering once a year for a weekend in the summer. This year we’ll gather again at Claggett Retreat Center, a scenic spot about an hour north of DC. There we’ll focus on some of the issues that matter most to our congregation, discussing how we can deepen our faith, better serve our neighbors, and strengthen our church. We’ll share meals, catch up with longtime St. Mark’s friends and make new ones, as we enjoy the many activities Claggett has to offer: swimming in the community pool, taking a meditative walk through the labyrinth, worshiping at the wooded outdoor altar, and admiring the beautiful views on a hike at Sugarloaf Mountain. (See the schedule for the retreat (June 29-30) on the last page of the May 26 announcements.)

Nursery care is provided and children from 3-12 have youth programming (and wide open fields) that keep them engaged and having fun. We close Saturday evening with a barn dance party and a campfire, complete with singalongs.

For new (or newish!) members, this is a fantastic opportunity to get to know people you may have never met and learn more about the church. For parents, it’s a great time to connect with other families and make memories together. And, for everyone, it’s a reminder of so many of the things we love about our church: people who make us laugh, questions that make us think, and community that makes us feel at home.

We hope you’ll join us!
