Welcome! St. Mark’s Capitol Hill is a vibrant community of unique individuals. We come together in large and small groups to worship, question, celebrate, rejoice, mourn and support each other. We welcome you to the community. We hope you’ll explore and learn more about what’s happening within our congregation. We encourage you to get involved.
You can start by exploring our different worship services or taking a class — we’ve got classes designed for all ages and several types of worship services. Join us during coffee hour following Sermon Seminar (10-10:45 am) on Sundays, or for pub lunch after the 11:15 a.m. service for a hearty meal and fellowship.  Or, if you’d like to meet others through local outreach projects, we’ve got lots of options for that as well. Are you passionate about the arts? Check out our in-house theatre company, the St. Mark’s Players, or join one of several choirs. St. Mark’s always has something going on and we’d love to have you join whatever activities interest you.
If you have questions or you’d like to know more, please contact us. We’ll help you find your way into our community.

Baptisms

Both children and adults may be baptized at St. Mark’s; baptisms take place four times a year and candidates (either parents of the child candidate or the adult candidate for baptism) are asked to participate in a baptism class, offered twice a year, so that they may learn more about the rite in which they are participating.

All candidates for baptism — parents in the case of children — must attend a Baptism Class to learn more about baptism within the Episcopal Church and to explore the larger issues surrounding this important religious rite. This class is designed for parents who are planning to present their child for Baptism. It explores parenting issues that are posed by our Liturgy of Baptism.

Weddings

St. Mark’s is pleased to offer ceremonies to unite all committed couples in holy matrimony. We observe the laws of the District of Columbia, which includes marriage of same-sex couples. Weddings are performed for current members of St. Mark’s or those who seek to become members of our parish. We do not rent our sanctuary for non-members to use for their wedding ceremonies.

Please contact the office staff for more information about getting married at St. Mark’s.

Funerals

St. Mark’s serves both members of St. Mark’s and members of the Capitol Hill community when funeral services are required. Please contact the office staff to discuss your needs, and clergy, staff, and parishioners will work with you to help plan an appropriate memorial.
