Living our mission, “St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Capitol Hill is an open community, welcoming people wherever they are on their faith journey. We celebrate the gifts of God that empower us to engage boldly in the struggles of life and care for others with love, justice, and compassion.”

Outreach at St. Mark’s is how “we care for others with love, justice, and compassion.” We seek to identify those in need who live in our broader community through partnerships with service organizations that empower individuals to develop their strengths and move toward self-sufficiency and self-determination.

Outreach is a dynamic process that has and will continue to grow and develop. To sustain outreach at St. Mark’s, we use the analogy of a tree: the roots take our members’ assets and channel them like a tree trunk to service providers that support those in need to strengthen organizations and individuals, further nourishing and strengthening the greater community.

The Outreach Board supports St. Mark’s mission statement by:

  • Providing stewardship over the funds allocated by the Vestry for outreach.
  • Serving as a catalyst, convener, collaborator, and connector between St. Mark’s members and partner organizations.
