WHAT: Advocacy, education, and solidarity for justice in Palestine
The St. Mark’s Justice in Palestine Group (SMJP) is driven by a commitment to freedom for the Palestinian people and all people residing in the Holy Land and beyond. Through advocacy, education, action, and solidarity we work within our congregation and the broader church community in support of justice, peace, and equality in historic Palestine. We work to raise awareness about the roots and harms of Christian supremacy. We aim to demonstrate how justice in the Holy Land is interconnected with other social justice issues, including incarceration justice and genocide of indigenous Americans.
We are part of the Friends of Palestine Detainee Program, initiated by Friends of Sabeel North America. Through this partnership, we engage in solidarity, advocacy, and prayer for political prisoners and their families. We also work in collaboration with Christians for Ceasefire and Just Peace Campaign and the Take a Stand for the Holy Land initiative.
In addition, through pilgrimages, personal relationships, and financial support, St. Mark’s parishioners have built a strong relationship with the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem. We have celebrated worship together, recognizing the key role the Christian community, despite its dwindling numbers, plays in the Holy Land. Our Good Friday and special Offerings have raised funds to support Diocesan educational and health care institutions in Palestine, particularly Ahli Hospital in Gaza and St. Luke’s in the West Bank. These ministries offer much needed hope and healing.
