Navajoland Guests to Come to St Mark’s This Summer

Would you like to help host?

Youth and Family Ministries and the Navajoland Steering Group will welcome a group of 5–7 high school students and their adult chaperones to DC July 19–29. Here’s how you can be involved:

We are looking for members of the congregations who would be willing to help host our guests. If you have lodging space available (especially on Capitol Hill) or gifts of hospitality, we need to hear from you!

Fundraisers are coming soon! Part of how our community can help grow our relationship with St. Christopher’s is to contribute financially to this trip. Keep an eye on this space and look for St. Mark’s youth collection donations soon.

Learn more about the history and current issues affecting Navajoland. The course linked below is a great start.

We’re excited about this opportunity to grow our relationship with St. Christopher’s in Bluff, UT, and the greater Navajoland region. Please email youthdirector[at]stmarks.net with any questions or to volunteer.

“Roots of Injustice, Seeds of Change: Toward Right Relationship with Native Peoples”

This is an online 2-hour participatory workshop, appropriate for high school students and adults. The history of the colonization of Turtle Island, the land now known as the United States, will be told through the words of Indigenous leaders, European/American leaders, and Western historians. We will engage with this history through experiential exercises and small group discussions and understand why this history matters to all Americans today. And we’ll be invited to consider how we can build relationships with Indigenous peoples based on truth, respect, justice, and our shared humanity. Sponsored by the UN Indigenous leaders and World Council of Churches. Participants are asked to donate $25. Upcoming sessions are Saturday, May 18, 4–6 pm ET, and Sunday, June 23, 4–6 pm ET.
