June Music Events at St. Mark’s
June 2 (Sunday): A choral Evensong service will be held at 5 pm. This will be the Chancel Choir’s last Evensong service of the season. Please join us to hear some special music in a meditative setting. A reception will follow the service.
June 14 (Friday) at 7:30 pm (in-person) and June 15 (Saturday) at 7:30 pm (in-person and livestream): We are excited to host the fabulous 18th Street Singers at St. Mark’s for the first time. Comprised of mostly 20s and 30s, the group performs a wide variety of sophisticated, high-quality music from around the world.
The group’s spring concert—”Heartsong of a Nation: An American Choral Tapestry”—is an immersive journey through the songs of America, inviting audiences to embrace the diverse voices and stories that shape our collective choral tapestry. In it, the pioneer sounds of William Billings’s stirring harmonies in “I Am the Rose of Sharon” are mixed with songs that echo across divides like “Will the Circle be Unbroken,” the traditional Appalachian tune as arranged by J. David Moore. You’ll also hear Undine Smith Moore’s jubilant “Tambourines to Glory”; Amazing Grace” arranged by Skip Stradtman; Yannick Morgan’s poignant “Love Let Me Linger” (a world premiere); and “Shift,” by Ayanna Woods, which explores the complexities of patriotism.
Tickets: $20 general admission, $15 senior, pay-what-you-can, and FREE admission options for students.
