Vestry Notes from Vestry Clerk Randy Marks

From the May 28th meeting

The Vestry is governing board of St. Mark’s. It generally meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7PM, with some members gathering in the conference room at church and others via zoom. Michele as Rector, Jim Brooks as Senior Warden, and Martha Huizenga as Junior Warden
lead it and it has nine members, which we elect for three year terms. The full St Mark’s leadership structure is on our website.
The Vestry met on May 28. As usual, it heard reports from Michele, Jim, Martha, and Treasurer Doug Ammon. Highlights of the reports included bequests, major repairs, and new Volunteer Leader Guidelines, which will be distributed to Parish leaders soon.
The Vestry spent most of its time discussing the Church’s engagement of volunteers. Key points included:
● Concern that some key leadership positions are vacant, including the Manciple (who assists the Junior Warden in maintaining our property) and Worship, Parish Life, Canvas, and Stewardship chairs. (If you are interested in any of these positions, contact Jim Brooks,
(Srwarden@stmarks.net.)
● The complexity of the Parish Life Pillar, which includes hospitality and social events and supports numerous groups.
● Improvements in our communications systems.
● Changes to our Pillar and Committee structure to make their roles and ability to volunteer clearer, given that our current structure was developed long ago.
Once they are approved at the June 25 meeting, the minutes of the meeting will be here, along with past minutes and the St.Mark’s By-Laws. I post hard-copies of the minutes in the undercroft in the gathering area near the stairs.
Any member may attend Vestry meetings. If you have questions about the Vestry, or want to attend a meeting, contact me at clerk@stmarks.net.
