You are invited to a monthly reading group focused on economic inequality in the current United States. The group offers an opportunity for thoughtful conversation centered on nine books by diverse authors. Each book guides a discussion with understanding and compassion as we look to boldly respond to the suffering and structural injustices of economic inequality.

April’s discussion centers Mercurochrome by Wanda Coleman (1946-2013), considered to be the unofficial poet laureate of Los Angeles. Coleman writes with what poet Terrance Hayes calls “wicked candor” about her life as a Black working mother, author, and activist with an observant eye toward her city’s oppressive systems. Coleman’s language brims with passion, humor, beauty, and truth.
