Vassar Haiti Project

Learn how this project is continuing in the face of recent violence in Haiti.
Our friends at the Vassar Haiti Project (VHP), whose sale of colorful paintings and handcrafts have so brightened Baxter Hall, stopped by to give us an update.

They were delivering paintings to a collector who had first met VHP at one of the St. Mark’s sales. The proceeds will help fund the VHP medical clinic, which serves 3,000 people from 42 villages annually. Because of the violence in Haiti, the Vassar students are no longer able to travel there. However, VHP does receive new paintings and handcrafts so that they continue to support the artists and their other projects in the region.

In the past, the priests they work with have had some measure of security from wearing their collars; now, it marks them as supposedly having money. Nevertheless, their important work continues. VHP hopes to return to St. Mark’s next year and continues to sell works online.
