Lenten Mite Box 2026
This year’s Mite Box theme is Food Insecurity. Throughout Lent, we are invited to reflect on the reality of hunger and on our neighbors—both near and far—who struggle to meet their daily needs. We will highlight local, national, and international programs that provide food and support.
The Mite Box is a meaningful spiritual practice that encourages us to respond with compassion, offering a small monetary gift in support of the non-profit organizations working on hunger issues in our area.
Beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 18th and continuing each day except Saturdays, the St. Mark’s daily email will include a brief reflection on the effects of food insecurity or information about programs that serve people experiencing hunger. Many of these reflections will invite you to record a donation in your Virtual Mite Box (PDF), a ledger you may keep throughout Lent. At Easter, we ask that you total your gifts and donate that amount to St. Mark’s SSJ for distributing to local agencies assisting those in need.
If you prefer a more tangible practice, you are welcome to use a physical container—such as a small box or jar—to collect daily contributions. Gifts may be made online at https://onrealm.org/StMarksDC/give/mitebox or by check payable to St. Mark’s, with Mite Box noted on the memo line.
If you do not receive the Daily Email, sign up for it here: https://www.stmarks.net/contact-us/
