Green Tip: Battery Collection
Washington, D.C. used to allow household batteries in the trash. No more. Regular and rechargeable batteries must be specially recycled at collection places. Luckily, this is easy. Home Depot, Lowe’s, Frager’s and other places will take them off your hands. For more info on these and other items that don’t go in your trash, see zerowaste.dc.gov. In Maryland and Virginia, check your local jurisdiction, as practices vary.
