Economic Inequality Reading Group

All are welcome

Meeting nine of nine, May 21, 7:00 pm, Elders Room

You are invited to the final discussion of the economic inequality reading group. May’s discussion centers on Tommy Orange’s There There. The novel follows twelve characters from Native Communities preparing for the Big Oakland Powwow.

The story gives voice to the experiences of members of urban Native Communities through embodied histories, protests, the discovery of spiritual and cultural traditions, and deep family connections, all told with stunning attention to language.

Orange is an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma and raised in Oakland, California. This debut novel was a Pulitzer-finalist and a reading experience that lingers. All are welcome.

The group facilitator is Angie Cecil. Please be in touch with questions.
