Crafts of Cairo Sale
Alf shokr (“a thousand thanks!”) to the St. Mark’s congregation for your enthusiastic support of Hands Along the Nile’s recent Crafts of Cairo event! Combined with sales in New York City and Cincinnati, OH, we raised almost $50,000 this winter for women living in the garbage recycling community of Cairo, Egypt. Girls in this neighborhood generally leave school at a young age to support their families’ garbage collecting and recycling businesses, making it difficult to escape the cycle of poverty. However, this vocational training center gives them the tools to pursue an education and earn an income by turning recycled materials into beautiful handicrafts. The funds raised support these female artisans and their families as well as providing healthcare, a nursery school, and after-school programs for the community, creating better opportunities for the next generation. Thank you for contributing to transformational change among one of Egypt’s most vulnerable communities! www.handsalongthenile.org Contact jcate@handsalongthenile.org
