Jesus Seminar On the Road: The Bible, the Birth of Christianity and Gender
Celene Lillie (Union Theological Seminary) and Deborah Niederer Saxon (Christian Theological Seminary, IN) will examine the leading role of women in the rise of Christianity and the formation of Christian beliefs.
Why does gender continue to be so prominent in religious disputes about knowledge, purity, and authority? How does that relate to Roman imperial power? What’s the new story about women and Christian origins revealed by recent scholarship?
Sessions at St. Mark’s: Friday, 4/21, 7:30 p.m.–9:00 p.m., Saturday, 4/22, 9:30 a.m.– 4:00 p.m.
