Caleb Nelson Amaker Takes on Management of Sunday School Program
We are pleased to announce that Caleb Nelson Amaker’s responsibilities as the Director of Youth and Family Ministries at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church have expanded to include overseeing our Sunday School program.
During a year-long process, the Co-Directors of Christian Education, our rector Michele, and church leadership looked at how we educate children here at St. Mark’s. We all concluded it made the most sense to have our Sunday School program be a staff-supported ministry and spent several months working with Caleb to envision a path forward.
Caleb served as our Interim Director of Youth and Family Ministries from 2019 to 2020 and has been Director of Youth and Family Ministries since 2020. He is excited to continue this work and for this new partnership with Sunday School!
Primary additions to Caleb’s responsibilities will include building the Sunday School calendar and managing volunteer Sunday School teachers, including recruitment and support inside and outside the classroom. He will continue duties such as maintaining youth budget accounts, creating and organizing family and youth events, coordinating family worship, and serving as St. Mark’s liaison to the youth initiatives in the Episcopal Diocese of Washington and the wider church.
Thanks to Greg Niblett, Karen Falk, and Keith Krueger, co-directors of Christian Education, for their wisdom and insight during this process. Thank you to our lead Sunday School teachers, Stephanie Deutsch, Suzanne Wells, Leslie Proctor, Lisa Ramish, Jeb Ory, and Douglas Padgett. And thank you to all past teachers and Christian Education directors who helped build our incredible Sunday School program. We are so excited to continue working together to share the love of God with the youth and families of St. Mark’s and our greater community!
