Sugarcane Documentary Screening
This powerful and profoundly moving documentary confronts the lasting wounds of church-run boarding schools for Indigenous children. We learn about the family whose lives were shaped by the violence endured by students at the boarding school. SugarCane reveals the devastating legacy of forced separation, cultural erasure, and abuse suffered by Indigenous people, and invites us to reckon with these truths and reflect on how we might participate in the work of healing.
A panel discussion will follow, with Chief Mark Tayac of the Piscataway Nation, Professor David Silverman, from GWU, and the Rev. Michelle Dibblee as our moderator.
Because the film will start promptly at 6:30, please arrive at 5:30 to register (free), have a light dinner, and find a seat.
