Baby Shower Gratitude

This update includes their message of hope and appreciation.

Thanks to all who responded so generously to the Afghan refugee committee’s request and provided supplies for the Stanikzai baby.

The baby boy is expected in the first week of July. With the help of Good Neighbors Capitol Hill and St. Mark’s, his parents are now feeling very well prepared to welcome him. Having a first baby is exciting and terrifying for expectant parents, but especially for parents in a new country. Sajed, the expectant father, said, “I cannot thank you enough for this generosity from the people of St. Mark’s. Without your assistance, we would be lost and very anxious. But you have given us so much joy and confidence. We know we will be able to love and care for our baby boy. ”

Sajed and his wife, along with the rest of the Stanikzai family, all hold Green Cards with an expiration date of 2035, at which point they can be renewed and begin the path to citizenship. They are among the fortunate who have found work, jobs, and community. We continue to provide hope.
