Whether loss of job security, fear for the vulnerable, or a derailment of ideals, we can feel a kind of dislocation that is sometimes called ambiguous loss where resolution and answers are elusive.

Over the course of an hour and a half, we will grieve together in this liminal space and time while also making room for hope and meaning.

The convenors

Julie Murphy is a certified parent coach.  She has been working with SCAN of Northern Virginia for three years as a one-on-one family coach and as a parent education teacher. Professionally, she received her Master of Public Administration and used that training as a staffer in the US Senate, as the Director of a family homeless shelter, and in nonprofit advocacy.

Monica Mills, LMSW, spent her career in and around politics: serving on Capitol Hill and in various Administrations, working on electoral campaigns, and conducting grassroots advocacy campaigns, especially around poverty and hunger issues. In 2020, at the height of the Covid pandemic, she returned to school graduating with a Master’s in Social Work. She is currently employed at a firm in Hyattsville, MD where her specialty is working with teen girls and young women to process their own grief and trauma and strengthen their self-esteem so they can make decisions based on their strengths, values, and beliefs.
