So the election season is here as I suspect you have noticed. For many of us, this is the most contentious and divisive election in memory. Perhaps this time also seems to have the seeds of violence and revolution in the air as well. A Baptist church sells Jesus 2020 lawn signs. Yet, we should not make the mistake of confusing Jesus’s revolution with the political climate now.
Michele and Joe will engage in conversation in hopes of making some sense of the call Jesus made 2,000 years ago, how it is being distorted, and how we make sense of it as people of faith. You can access their discussion on YouTube from the links at the bottom of this page.
A new discussion reflecting on the questions above will be available no later than Tuesday morning each week, beginning September 29, in the 40 days leading up to the election. Throughout this time, we will be reading The Politics of Jesus by Obery Hendricks.
Parishioners are invited to comment on the discussions during sermon seminar on Sunday morning, and we will all gather on Sunday, November 8, for a special post-election edition of Wrestling with the Angel to consider how we might more fully embody the teachings of a revolutionary Jesus, however the election turns out.
If you have any questions, please contact Joe Hubbard.
