News About Our Support for Afghan Refugees

Oct 07, 2022

The Stanikzai family is awaiting the birth of their third child and is now financially self-sufficient. Thanks to the generosity of St. Mark’s parishioners, we have funds available to help others. St. Columba’s is sponsoring three families and had $8,000 in emergency dental needs. St. Mark’s covered that with our Extended Vision 20/20 funds and donations to our Temporarily Restricted Fund for Afghan Refugees. Volunteers with Good Neighbors Capitol Hill have been helping a family of seven in Cheverly. We paid their September rent and provided gift cards from Outreach funds to help with school and cold weather clothing. We are working on ways to help tutor the children (ages 5, 7, 9, 11, and 12) and their mother. A job offer for the father would require a car, so if you know of someone who could donate a car in working order, please contact Kim Bayliss.
