Volunteer Opportunities in the Youth Program
Success Made Possible By Parents and Parishioners Like YOU!
Youth ministry is a multigenerational and cross-congregational effort that serves to enrich our own lives as well as those of our young members as we travel together on our journey of faith. Your involvement is fundamental in creating a safe and loving faith community for the children and youth at St. Mark's. From mentoring youth to joining us on retreats and trips, to simply lending a hand during sunday activities, there is a place for your gifts and energy in our youth ministry here.
Please email Marcella Gillis, Director of Youth Ministries for ways in which you can be involved with the youth at St. Mark's.
Safeguarding God’s Children Training
In order to actively protect the children and youth in our parish, the Diocese's Safeguarding God's Children is a required course for parish staff members, Sunday School teachers, and all volunteers working with youth. Please make the effort to attend this important training so that we can further develop and enrich our youth and family programming!
All adults working with children and youth are required to complete the diocese Safeguarding God’s Children training every 3 years. To become certified please register online by visiting the EDOW Webpage. Classes are held throughout the greater Washington DC area.
If you have already been certified and would like to renew online, please send Marcella an e-mail to obtain instructions for how to access the new Safeguarding God’s Children online training.
Teach Sunday School
We are so thrilled you’re considering teaching Sunday School! Please contact the Christian Education Co-Directors Penny Farley, Katherine Loevinger, Will Long, or Bobbi Smith, with your interest and they can guide you with the next steps. If you have not already, please make plans to complete the Safeguarding God’s Children training.
