Youth and Arts
At St. Mark's, we believe that there is a strong correlation between spirituality and the arts. There are many artistic outlets for youth and children at St. Mark’s to explore their talents (see Arts section), whether through music, dance, theater, visual arts, or liturgical arts.
Advent Art Project - December 2011
The Arts group is planning a display of art for the Nave and undercroft. We would like the young artists in the parrish to contribute. The theme from the worship co-chairs is:
Advent theme: Challenged by darkness, led into light and life
1st Sunday: What is my challenge? Nov. 27
2nd Sunday: What kind of Jesus do I need?
3rd Sunday: How am I called to change?
1st Sunday: What is my challenge? Nov. 27
2nd Sunday: What kind of Jesus do I need?
3rd Sunday: How am I called to change?
4th Sunday: Do I, too, give birth to light and life?
Youth are encouraged to create a drawing, painting, or collage that is inspired by the Advent topic above. Suggested standard size from 9x12, 11x14, to 18x24 inches would fit standard frame openings. These will need to be mounted so they can be hung from picture molding in the hallway downstairs, or on nails in the nave. Work needs to be delivered Saturday Nov. 26 between 9:30- 10:30 so they may be hung for Sunday, 27th.
Parents are welcome to help. Please contact David Evelyn, artdave@verizon.net, or Marcella Gillis marcella.gillis@stmarks.netif you can volunteer to assist and if your child will plan to participate.
