What is pledging all about?

Why Make a Pledge?

St. Mark’s needs your financial support!   St. Mark’s depends on donations to sustain its programs and facilities.  Every fall, during the Annual Canvass pledge drive, parishioners pledge to donate a certain amount of money over the next calendar year.  The church’s fiscal year is the calendar year – and its annual operating budget for each calendar year is based on the sum of these pledges.  Please consider making a canvass pledge; the number of programs St. Mark's is able to offer depends directly on the generosity of our members and friends!

Read our Frequently Asked Questions document to learn more about pledging.

How Pledging Works at St. Mark’s

A pledge is a promise to pay a certain dollar-amount over a certain time period.

A pledge payment is a donation made to fulfill a pledge.

A Pledging Member is a parishioner or friend who has made a pledge during the most recent annual canvass (pledge drive).  Pledging members are entitled to vote in our leadership elections at the Annual Meetings held each spring – and are included in the Parish Directory (emailed quarterly).  For more about becoming a member, click here.

St. Mark’s Two Ongoing Pledge Drives

Each fall, we have an Annual Canvass to raise general operating funds – the money that keeps the church doors open; pays worship, music and program expenses; and supports clergy and staff salaries.   Canvass 2015  is raising money now to fund the budget for calendar year 2015.  While the goal is to gather sufficient pledges in October and November to allow the Vestry to finalize the 2015 budget before year's end, canvass pledges are gratefully accepted throughout the year!

The Vision 2020 Capital Campaign - In 2011, St. Mark’s launched the Vision 2020 Capital Campaign to raise money for a renovation and expansion of our Parish Hall Building.  The new space was dedicated on September 28, 2014, and now houses new classrooms, meeting spaces, a renovated kitchen, a new sacristy and vesting room, and clergy and staff offices.   While the project is completed, we have incurred significant debt to finance the project.  Therefore, the campaign will continue through 2016 – and if you have not made a gift or a pledge, you are encouraged to do so.  For more information about the Vision 2020 Capital Campaign and our building plans, click here.  Pledges of payment over time – or one-time gifts – are gratefully accepted throughout the year!  Please note:  You only need make a Vision 2020 pledge once -- you do not need to renew it every year.
