Communications
We at St. Mark's believe that good communication is critical to the health of our life as a congregation. As a result we invest significant effort
in providing a variety of ways to share news, concerns, and matters of interest with one another and with those who might be interested in the
mission of St. Mark's.
A major source of information both to members of the congregation and to the general public is our website
(www.stmarks.net), which contains literally hundreds of pages of information on our mission, our worship,
and the wealth of our activities. The web site also includes the names of parish managers responsible for areas of our communal life (ranging
from Worship, Christian Education, and Youth, to Care Giving, Outreach, and the Arts). Typically, the information posted on the St. Mark's web
site is submitted by the clergy or parish managers to the web coordinator, Karen Falk,
who bears overall responsibility for content of the site, in coordination with the Vestry.
Matters of more immediate interest are advertised in the weekly announcements, which are handed out with the weekly Sunday Bulletin and also posted
on the web (www.stmarks.net/parish_life/announcements.html). A more long range
calendar of events is distributed on a bi-monthly basis and then published on the web
(www.stmarks.net/parish_life/index.htm), where we also publish our worship schedule
(www.stmarks.net/worship/schedule.html).
On a monthly basis, St. Mark's issues its newsletter, The Gospel According to St. Mark's, which is available for pickup at church, on the web
(www.stmarks.net/parish_life/communications/index.html), and upon request
via mail. Any requests to receive The Gospel via mail should be addressed to the Parish Administrator, 118 Third Street, SE, Washington DC, 20003.
Those wishing to submit articles to The Gospel may do so by submitting articles of not more than 500 words to the editor, Stephanie Deutsch at
scd@his.com. The editor reserves sole right over what items to include and/or modify to best meet the profile of
The Gospel.
The main way of communicating with one another electronically is through the St. Mark's egroup
(groups.yahoo.com/group/StMarks/), membership in which is reserved to those
affiliated with the congregation.
In addition, St. Mark's maintains extensive mailing lists (snail mail and e-mail). Those wishing to use the snail mail lists, are invited to
contact Baxter House. Parish Managers wishing to make use of the tools provided through the St. Mark's server, are invited to contact the Web
Coordinator, who is responsible for all communications with our Web Contractor and the and the manager of the EDOW server which hosts our web site.
Finally, there are always the trusted ways of communicating via "Word of Mouth," telephone trees, and one-on-one conversations.
