Friday January 6, 2012: 7:30pm Armonia Nova Concert
St. Mark’s will host early music ensemble Armonia Nova in a celebration of Epiphany and the Winter Solstice this Friday at 7:30pm. The performance will feature gorgeous music of the season from England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. Artistic director Constance Whiteside will perform on medieval & baroque double-strung harps alongside an early viol player and three singers. The program has been hailed as “one of the two finest and most inspiring concerts of the Christmas season” by AllArts4UReview. Free will offering. No tickets required. www.armonianova.org
Saturday April 28, 2012: 7:30pm Jazz Mass Concert
St. Mark's is proud to present the Washington, D.C. regional premiere of Ike Sturm's recently composed Jazz Mass. Bassist Ike Sturm and solo vocalist Misty Sturm will perform alongside a talented ensemble of jazz musicians, a string sextet, and the St. Mark's Chancel Choir. The mass includes the traditional Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei movements as well as the Lord's Prayer set in a contemporary jazz style with additional hymns and other improvisations. $10 suggested donation.
Sunday April 29, 2012: 10am Combined Service with Jazz Mass
Past concerts at St. Mark's have included the several Washington Early Music Festival concerts (with Arco Voce, Armonia Nova, BHB, Carmina, Ensemble Gaudior, Harmonious Blacksmith, Modern Musick Piano Trio, The Suspicious Cheese Lords, The Vivaldi Project, and others), the Cantate Chamber Singers, and the Capitol Hill Chamber Music Festival with An Elizabethan Broken Consort, among many others.
