Pub Lunch
Many people come to join us for our Sunday "Pub Lunch", which follows the 11:15 service each week in the Parish Hall. This tradition began over 30 years ago and has become a favorite activity among many parishioners; each week volunteers prepare lunch for as many as 80-100 folks; newcomers and visitors are encouraged to join us as our guest, while regular attendees make a small contribution.
Wine, juices, iced tea and other beverages are available but the unique item is our very own "Winged Lion Lager", a steam beer brewed locally and prepared by a group of St. Mark's volunteers. Our resident brewmeister often prepares special beers for the holidays or special events, including "Christmas Cheer" and "Spring Fling". Pub Lunch has become an important opportunity for us to gather and enjoy one another’s company; for those who attend our 9:00 a.m. service, there is a Coffee Hour, or Pub Brunch, which generally includes coffee, juice, and baked goods.
If you would like to help prepare lunch, host a Coffee Hour, or learn how to make beer, check out the Pub of the Winged Lion for more information. This is a great way to get involved in life at St. Mark's!
And, yes, our beer was featured in the Washington Post in 2004: "On Capitol Hill, a Thirst for That 'Heavenly Brew'"
