St. Mark's Online Bookstore

Welcome to the St. Mark's Online Bookstore! We have created this site in order to make it easy to purchase recent books on topics of interest to parishioners. To make the online bookstore possible, we have partnered with Amazon.com, who actually fulfills all of the orders received here. Amazon.com in turn gives St. Mark's a percentage of each sale made from a link to their website, thereby helping us further our important work.

The Dream of God: A Call to Return by Verna J. Dozier

So You Can't Stand Evangelism?: A Thinking Person's Guide to Church Growth

So You Think You're Not Religious?: A Thinking Person's Guide to the Church by James R. Adams

A Child's Garden
Mollie Dannenmaier
Hardcover - 208 pages (March 1998)
Simon & Schuster; ISBN: 0684837250

A Child's Garden is an excellent guide for parents wishing to create natural spaces in the garden where their children can openly play and explore. Stepping beyond the traditional ideas of building a treehouse or planting a vegetable garden, the authors include 60 unique ways to tailor a landscape to nurture a child's sense of enchantment and wonder. For instance, many children like to hide, and the book includes ideas for building natural caves out of woven willow branches, climbing vines, or weeping shrubs. For parents wanting to plant a good tree for climbing, this guide knowledgeably recommends the fast-growing and sturdy Norway maple as one of the best. It's filled with such information throughout its nine sections on water, creatures, refuges, dirt, heights, movement, make-believe, nurturing, and learning. Messages on safety are wisely included, along with an excellent list of resources covering everything from buying butterfly houses to visiting selected children's gardens. Through its many color photographs and warm, wise text, A Child's Garden will draw parents into their children's timeless, carefree world and perhaps back to a time when they themselves explored streams, played in the sand, studied bugs, and roamed without agenda.

Skeptic in the House of God
James L. Kelley
Hardcover - 208 pages (June 1997)
Rutgers Univ Press; ISBN: 081352427X

What do members of St. Mark's think about this book? On parishioner wrote:

Jim Kelley has written a compelling, honest account of membership in St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Capital Hill. To disclose any bias, I have been a member of St. Mark's since 1992, though not a close acquaintance of Jim's. His portrayal shows the effect that a community's support, or lack of support, can have on an individual member, and discusses some of the ways St. Mark's develops a feeling of "community". Persons interested in the role church plays in their lives would benefit from reading this book, including both those who go to church and are not sure why and those who have not gone to a church in a long time. This book also provides insight to St. Mark's functional education style which should be encountered by those interested in Christian education. Finally, any friends, family or acquaintances of St. Mark's members who have been puzzled by the devotion members have towards this church, or have wondered how a Sunday school class could teach anything of use when the words "God" or "Jesus" are not mentioned, will find some insights in Skeptic in the House of God.
