Acts of Vestry

January 2004

  • Upon recommendation by the Treasurer and the Finance Committee, the vestry passed the St. Mark’s 2004 budget with the projection of $781,300 in income and $781,300 in expenditures. Details of the budget are found in the financial portion of the website.

  • In accordance with relevant tax law, the vestry approved the split between the rector’s stipend and housing (see budget for details)

  • The Finance Committee recommended and the vestry approved a motion that all purchases made by St. Mark’s staff and contractors over the sum of $250 be approved and countersigned by the Rector.

  • The vestry voted to expand the use of budgeted Christian Education funds (budget line 50970), which may henceforth be used as subsidies for “Gateway Classes” and for Sunday School expenses.

  • The vestry approved the procedure recommended by the Senior and Junior Wardens for raising funds to repair the St. Mark’s tower.

    • Fund raising within the parish will begin on January 25 and continue until April 1, 2004 beginning with two parish meetings and a letter to be sent to the entire St. Marks database.

    • Parishioners will be asked to give what they feel is appropriate for their situation. If an average contribution of $500 per adult is given, the amount needed to repair the tower – between $250,000 and $300,000 – will be achieved.

    • If adequate funds are not received by April 1, the church will take out either a loan or line of credit to complete the funding necessary to complete the project in August.

    • Any funds received after the April cutoff date will be applied to the principle of the loan or to other building repair projects.

  • The vestry voted final approval of the proposal made by Music Director Keith Reas in October that St. Marks be the location for the four day Early Music Festival to be sponsored by the Consortium for Early Music in June 2004. The Consortium will sign a contract with St. Mark’s in the near future which will spell out their agreement to bear all costs for the festival in exchange for using St. Marks Church rent free.

  • The vestry endorsed the postulantcy of parishioner Karen Byrne for Holy Orders.
